Cryptic crossword No 3,171

Wow what an ambitious project this was! I got 1a pretty quickly so I had an inkling what was going on but it still took 4 or 5 visits over the weekend to get to about 50% complete and I've finally had to throw in the towel. Don't be disheartened though - I think it was a great idea and the clues all seem pretty solid with some crackers like 7d & 4d. Also as I learned the other week, shenanigans puzzles seem to be less popular in general. I will try to give some more feedback later today. Cheers!
