Cryptic crossword No 3,121

This is very good for a second effort. I'll note a handful of quibbles in a follow-up comment. 1a, 20a and 8d were my highlights but there were lots of good surfaces and neat definitions to pick from. Nice one!

Really enjoyed this. So many well crafted clues with elegant, witty, concise surfaces. 1a is terrific. 22a great. I liked the elision of stable and hands in 28a for the misdirection. 23d v good. 7d - lovely exchange of the two letters. 20a reference to hair is clever way of keeping misdirection with the 'cold case' and TV detective. Not sure you needed "in writing" to indicate CS Lewis - but v minor. 15 referencing answer to 2 works great. All very smooth and looking forward to solving yr next!
