Wow, a meaty challenge that I'm glad I persisted at, although I didn't always follow your trickier wordplay. COTD 14a and I also especially liked 7a,8a,12a and 6d,7d,19d,22d

A very enjoyable and typically smooth puzzle, for which many thanks. Faves inc 8a, 14a, 21a (very cunning and nho in this context), 24a, 5d, 6d, 9d and, COTD, 19d. Thanks. PM

Thanks Meles. This took a few sittings but it was worth the effort. Favs were 10a, 14a, 16a, 20a, 28a, 2d, and 9d. I needed your notes to parse 21a, 1d, & 19d. Great stuff overall.

Apologies for the late comment Meles, my first got lost in the ether and I forgot to come back and show my appreciation for a lovely puzzle. Lots to like, particularly 14a (very neat), 20a (neat), 21d (smooth), 28a (very neat), 3d (satisfying assembly), 6d (clean), 18d (very good), 23d (fun surface) and 26d (likewise)
